Title:  Global Sustainability Business Partner - Natural Resources


As the Global Sustainability Business Partner for Natural Resource Conservation, you will lead through sustainability strategies in our manufacturing and other direct operations in support of the Kellogg Company global sustainability commitments (Better Days Promise Goals) and programs. With your expertise you will provide guidance and execution for sustainability initiatives with Kellogg Company’s direct operations. You’ll collaborate most directly with global and regional teams across Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering, Global Corporate Affairs, and Indirect Procurement, with additional partnership with industry groups, support functions and related areas.


With passion and skill, you will update and implement a comprehensive natural resource conservation (NRC) strategy for Kellogg worldwide as both subject matter expert and key influencer, enabling the company to meet ambitious targets and adapt to emerging voluntary and regulatory requirements for corporate climate (scopes 1, 2, and 3), water, and waste performance for food manufacturers. You will lead development and recommendations to deliver sustainability commitments in our manufacturing footprint, including energy efficiency and renewables, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water,  and waste reduction.


Role can be located in a number of locations: U.S. (Battle Creek, MI & Naperville, IL), Querétaro – Mexico, Dublin – Ireland and Manchester – UK, Bucharest




  • Global Sustainability Strategy Development: Develop, lead, and execute comprehensive global NRC strategies for manufacturing performance in climate, greenhouse gas (scope 1 & 2 emissions), renewable energy, electricity, water, and waste reduction. Understand and communicate constraints and potential. Collaborate with stakeholders in Global Sustainability, Procurement, Operations, R&D and other functions on scope 3 climate commitments and strategy, which will link closely with our Responsible Sourcing commitments and programs. Implement holistic strategies considering technical, financial, growth, operational, and business strategy implications. Lead global NRC strategy progress in line with Kellogg’s Better Days global purpose platform and corporate ESG priorities. Align corporate goals and strategies with emerging and evolving industry expectations and innovations. Identify and close gaps in Kellogg’s NRC and climate strategies, designing work streams to provide Kellogg with analysis, strategic insights, and recommendations to inform future ESG investments in material issue areas. Determine levers to sustain and improve our position over time


  • NRC Program Leadership and Management: Lead the program development, management, and analysis of Kellogg’s global NRC programs for ESG commitment areas including climate, GHG, renewable energy, water, and waste, including direct investment in programs and continuous improvement initiatives. Negotiate key elements of partnerships for project viability and sustainability. Build strategic and technical capabilities through the Kellogg Work Systems NRC Center of Excellence (NRC KWS COE), connecting staff across regional teams with tools, trainings, and industry forums to help them build necessary capability to meet NRC sustainability commitments. Advise development of timebound work plans for NRC KWS COE members to meet Kellogg sustainability commitments, while meeting commercial requirements. Provide technical guidance and standard work design for internal Kellogg teams and systems (e.g. Insight) required for accurate NRC data collection from Kellogg manufacturing facilities.


  • Commercial Activation: Provide technical and strategic guidance to Global Sustainability, Sales, Wellbeing, and Brand teams for commercial/marketing claims substantiated with Kellogg NRC programs and investments. Advise on technical requirements for sustainability commercial activations (on-pack claims, in-store or online displays, consumer experience planning, etc), including third-party environmental claims verification, industry standards for NRC, and implementation requirements for credible programs to substantiate commercial claims.


  • External Representation & Communication: Build and review NRC content for annual Global ESG reports, formalizing results from NRC programs against Kellogg’s global sustainability commitments, to support external sustainability reporting. Manage data processes, third-party verification, and annual insights into NRC performance, as required for annual industry sustainability/ESG reporting platforms. Consult with Corporate Affairs to translate annual and running NRC performance insights into credible ESG narratives and storytelling suitable for multiple audiences, including consumers, customers, shareholders, and external subject matter experts. Monitor ESG progress relative to peers and customers and support performance rankings in third-party ESG platforms (CDP, World Benchmarking Alliance, DJSI, GRI, SASB, customer sustainability surveys, etc.).


  • Knowledge Sharing and Capability Building: Lead Kellogg’s participation in industry groups, working groups and roundtables, bringing outside learning back into the organization. Develop, lead, and execute training events on sustainability / NRC programs and risks for colleagues, building internal capability across Supply Chain/Operations (Kellogg’s manufacturing facilities), Indirect Procurement, Corporate Affairs, Wellbeing, Brand, Legal, and Sales teams.





  • Bachelor’s Degree with Sustainability, Environmental Science or related field preferred (i.e. Sustainable Business, Environmental Engineering) plus 8+ years of industry experience (corporate, consulting, NGO, regulatory, etc.). 
  • Expert in the fields of sustainability and natural resource conservation in manufacturing.
  • Technical proficiency with relevant standards for sustainability and corporate target-setting and disclosure. Examples include the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), CDP, the Science Based Targets Initiative, the WRI/WBCSD Greenhouse Gas Protocol, WRI’s Food Loss and Waste Protocol, and ISO 14040:2006.
  • Strong project management skills, with a demonstrated track record in
    • Leading or supporting cross-functional climate, water, and/or waste sustainability initiatives in a manufacturing setting, and
    • Leading climate, water, and/or waste data collection, cleaning, insights, and submission processes for annual corporate ESG/CSR reporting cycles.
  • Strong business acumen, including an understanding of what it takes to influence and drive successful, strategic decisions in a business environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and influencing skills.
  • A strategic mindset that values effective execution, linking day-to-day processes and tasks with a long-term vision for the NRC sustainability elements of business strategy
  • Ability to build excellent working relationships with all levels of management within the Kellogg Company and across external stakeholders, leading through influence and shared accountability
