Our lawyers play a key role in the business ensuring legal compliance whilst having a real seat at the table with regard to commercial decisions. The successful candidate will be expected to drive day to day business matters and engage proactively with a focus on commercial contracts, advertising, food and media law. The Kellogg Legal Team is a fun, friendly and energised department. The role is hybrid split between our Media City, Manchester office and locations that work for you.

 

In your role as Senior Legal Counsel – UK/Ireland, you will contribute to the success of the Kellogg business by:

 

  • Reviewing and approving all UK/I media activity including all advertising including social media, Point of sale materials, Packaging and press releases. Proactively providing legally complaint solutions where appropriate and doing legal research as needed.
  • Focusing on aspects of Food law in compliance with regulation and engaging with our Regulatory and Wellness team.
  • Providing proactive solution focused legal advice tailored to the needs of the business with a balanced approach of commercial and compliance focus.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts across a broad spectrum of areas including general procurement, IT, Sales and media relationships.
  • Provide all the relevant legal support for our UK plants including all purchasing agreements, service agreements and working with the Transactions legal team, the Brand protection legal team, plants and procurement to provide the most robust legal protection.
  • Instruct and manage external legal counsel when needed.
  • Monitoring and interpreting the legislative environment in which the company operates.
  • Proactively identifying legal risk and providing commercially sound legal solutions.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across multiple functions in a global organisation.
  • Supporting the Sales Team in customer negotiations and contracts.
  • Play a key role in the Kellogg Legal Team, as a keen team player, and importantly a strong commercial partner to the broader UK/I business, contributing to the growth and constant evolution of the Global Legal and Compliance Department as well as the in market UK/I business.

 

To be considered for this position you must be able to meet the following requirements:

 

Required:

 

  • A UK qualified commercial/IP lawyer with at least 4 years post qualification experience in a reputable law firm or within industry.
  • Strong academic background.
  • Technical excellence in your understanding and communication of the law.
  • Experience in commercial contracts.
  • Experience in consumer law and food law.
  • Commercial acumen and strong relationship development skills.
  • The ability to communicate with many different levels of the business and influence key stakeholders.
  • The ability to work cross functionally and across all levels.
  • Experience of working in a fast paced demanding legal environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills (including drafting and negotiating) and organisational skills.
  • Self-motivated and driven to develop legal capabilities and understand the Kellogg business.

 

Preferred:

 

  • Experience of advising food manufacturers
  • Experience of advising big brands.  
  • Experience with Legal support and regulatory advice relevant to the marketing function, relating to digital marketing, social media, direct to consumer activation.  
  • Secondment to industry if currently in private practice. 
  • Experience of dealing with senior directors.
